necklaces
The origin of the word "jewellery" can be traced back from the Latin term "jocale" which means plaything. To our ancestors however, a piece of jewelry is more than just a plaything. They were regarded as a currency, worn as a status symbol, representation, membership to a group and sometimes protection from illness or evil spirits.
Origin of Necklaces: It remains a curious fact that necklaces were once thought to safeguard the wearer against any attempt at hypnotizing. There was a logic underlying this belief. A beautiful necklace adorning the neck was bound to distract the eyes of the hypnotizer from the wearer's face and eyes. A necklace in this manner acted as a powerful restraint against undesirable gentlemen trying out their charms on virtuous maidens. It follows by extension that the more elaborate the necklace the higher the probability of a lady maintaining her honor.
Archeologists believe the necklace was born during the stone age about 40,000 years before than previously believed. ... scientists were excavating a cave in South Africa discovered forty-one mollusks that may have been strung as neck jewelry about 75,000 years ago.
Necklaces, handsome and richly ornamented, were a principal part of the dress, both of men and women, among the ancient Egyptians
Necklaces of gold thickly set with gems were worn by the Greeks and Romans of both sexes.
In the second and third century it became popular to wear multiple necklaces all at the same time. The types of neck jewelry sometimes indicated the level of wealth or class of the wearer. Necklaces were very popular in whatever form could be made.
In former times the garters of the sovereign's order of knighthood were usually enriched with jewels.
Necklaces are worn now for a variety of reasons not the least of which personal adornment. Many people wear medals that are religiously significant such as those with images of the Saints or Jesus Christ. Many wear a plain cross while still others will wear a Crucifix which is a cross on which the image of the body of Christ is fastened. It stands to reason that it can be said that necklaces have been and will remain a piece of jewelry that is completely versatile in its design and the intent of the wearer.

Few weeks back i heard an interesting story about material for jewelry. Man who wear silver ring is very gentle, kind and patient? Man who wear jade ring is very tasteful and unique? Man who wear gold ring is very opinionated, cares about business and smart? Man who wear white gold ring has good relationship with others and very social?
thanks :) glad you like it.
interesting. that seems to coincide of my impression of guys wearing those rings too! however, i also feel that:
guys who wear silver ring --> young or at least young at heart, in their 20's
jade --> old, experienced, (my grandfather :D), in their 70's
gold --> (born)rich, business-minded, in their 50's
white-gold --> (self-made)rich, loving, in their 30's
